Landlords to be repsonsible for tenants' unpaid water bills!

Posted on Friday, December 12, 2014

From 1st January 2015 there will be a LEGAL obligation on private landlords located in the Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and Dee Valley Water areas to inform their water company of the following details within 21 days of the start of the tenancy...

• The full name of every occupant in a rental property
• The address of the property
• The date of birth of the occupants
• The date the tenancy started

Please note ALL of this information is mandatory, meaning you are legally required to share this information with the water company from 1st January 2015.

For existing tenants you must do this by 21st January 2015. For any new tenancies starting after 1st January you must inform the relevant water company 21 days from the start of the tenancy.

Failure to provide this information within the required timescale will result in you becoming liable for any unpaid water bills!

If you are unsure of which company supplies your property’s water, you can check it out on the Ofwat website here

You can pass on the required information to the water company via a new online portal. Just go to the following website and follow the instructions

Are we managing your property for you? If so don’t worry, we’ll sort this out as part of our management service.....
